JUMP into Google Design Sprints

Design Sprints were created to help answer critical business questions. It's a five-phase process that allows teams to rapidly prototype ideas and gain valuable learnings by testing their solutions on real people. You can also fast-forward into the future to see your finished product and customer reactions, before making any expensive commitments.

Join us as we'll break into sprint teams consisting of a wide range of skills, and learn how to do Google's original sprint process. Each team will select a sample business problem, break it down, sketch solutions, and decide which ideas to test with people from other teams. We'll learn how to spark innovation and launch proven solutions faster with Google Design Sprints.

If you have any questions, please reach us at jump@getjobber.com.

MacEwan University Fall Fest

Come say hi, meet the new Startup Edmonton team members, and see how you and your friends can be entered to win a sweet prize pack!

Event Description

September is here and what better way to kick off the school year then Fall Fest! We’re bringing you the ultimate back to school party with all the best activities, beer gardens, food trucks and vendors located inside the grounds. Let’s get this semester started, shall we?

Laundry Week:

Laundry Week is a rock trio formed in early 2018, attempting to bring a new flavour to the local music scene. They blend alternative, post-punk, and art rock sounds with unique chord progressions and strong melodic ideas creating high-powered rock songs with energy to spare. Taking influence from bands such as The Smiths, Joy Division, The Strokes and Green Day, Laundry Week uses the writing process to scrub thoughts of loss and loneliness away and throw those ideas into a rinse cycle of danceable rock beats. The band features Daniel Blade on bass, Shea Iles on drums and Charles Pickard on guitar and vocals.

Laundry Week released their first 4 track EP on July 13th, 2018. It includes their single “Lost Lover” which was first featured on Grade School Records’ “Show & Tell” compilation record in April of 2018; it was described as “infectiously poppy” by Canadian music blog Grayowl Point. The trio is releasing their second EP on July 25th, 2019.

FKB:

FKB, the high-energy rock band based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, has had a whirlwind past few years. Between releasing four singles and three music videos, they have performed over 120 shows in the last year and a half in Canada and the United States. They were also nominated for Adult Alternative Recording of the Year for “Bright Lights” at the Edmonton Music Awards during this time. Their 2018 single “Casual Love,” released on KnightVision Records/Warner Music, attracted international attention. Their dedication to a fast and exciting rock show continues to capture the attention of audiences everywhere they play just as it caught the attention early on of Clayton Bellamy (The Road Hammers) who produced their debut EP 123 FKB as well as recent singles “Bright Lights,” “My Bedroom,” “Casual Love,” and “Backseat Daydream.” The band has an impressive resume of shows with performances alongside high profile artists including Pop Evil, Bif Naked, Scott Helman, and many more.

King of Foxes:

King of Foxes offers up something of value: a musical divining rod that pulls the listener to an inner river that is at once both familiar and uncanny. Delivered in a voice that is equal parts fierce and fragile, front-woman Olivia Street’s lyrics are poetic and evocative, deftly interwoven with seeing-eye guitar hooks and a cogent understanding of song-craft. The latest release, Salt & Honey (2019), demonstrates a signature sound is quirky and textural, incorporating elements of Brit-pop and melodic indie rock that inform a well-read musical style.

King of Foxes has drawn comparisons to Alvvays, Vampire Weekend, and Juliana Hatfield, but retains an edgy and playful persona. Lush with layered guitars, infectious vocal melodies, and “instant indie-rock cred”, their previous record, Golden Armour (2016), appeared on the Canadian Independent music charts for 17 weeks following its release. The production of Salt & Honey was supported by the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Arts Council. King of Foxes was honoured with an “Artist to Watch” nomination at the 2018 Edmonton Music Awards.
